- Eu não me chamo Pepsi-Rita, eu não sou a tua puta!!! - Disse ela depois de me dar o dinheiro num movimento defensivo, recuando, afastando o corpo, negando-me qualquer tipo de contacto.
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home...

Project Philadelphia - October 28, 1943
in an incident known as the Philadelphia Experiment." (link)
The story of the alleged experiment
The alleged experiment was conducted by Dr Franklin Reno (or Rinehart) as a military application of Albert Einstein’s unified field theory, or “generalized theory of gravitation." The theory, briefly, postulates the interrelated nature of the forces that comprise electromagnetic radiation and gravity. Through a special application of the theory, it was thought to be possible, with specialized equipment and enough energy, to bend light around an object, rendering it essentially invisible. The navy considered this application to be of obvious value in wartime (as the United States was engaged in the Second World War at the time) and approved and sponsored the experiment. A navy destroyer escort, the USS Eldridge, was fitted with the required generator equipment at the naval yards in Philadelphia.
Testing began in summer 1943, and was successful to a limited degree. One test, on July 22, resulted in the Eldridge being rendered almost completely invisible, with some witnesses reporting a “greenish fog”; however, crew members complained of serious nausea afterwards. At that point, the experiment was altered at the request of the navy, with the new goal being invisible to radar only.
Equipment was not recalibrated, and the experiment was performed again on October 28. This time, Eldridge not only became almost entirely invisible to the naked eye, but vanished from the area in a flash of blue light. Concurrent with this phenomenon, the US naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, just over 600 km (375 miles) away, reported sighting the Eldridge offshore for several minutes, whereupon the Eldridge vanished again and reappeared in Philadelphia, at the site it had originally occupied: a supposed case of accidental teleportation.
The physiological effects on the crew were profound. Almost all of the crew were violently ill. Some suffered from mental illness because of the experience; behavior conforming to schizophrenia is described in some accounts. Still other members were missing —supposedly “vanished” — and five of the crew were allegedly fused to the metal bulkhead or deck of the ship. Horrified, navy officials immediately cancelled the experiment. All of the surviving crew involved were discharged; in some accounts, brainwashing was used to make some crew members forget about the details of their experience.
Cultural references
In the “Død Kalm” (2X19) episode of The X-Files, Mulder and Scully are tipped off to a U.S. Navy ship that had caused its crew to rapidly age; Mulder at first believed the aging had to do with the failed Philadelphia Experiment.
“The Pegasus”, an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation had a plot similar to the Philadelphia Experiment. Tests of an experimental type of cloaking device result in the deaths of most of the crew of the ship.

«The passion of the Maharaja of Gwalior (...) was electric trains. (…) It was laid out over 250 feet of solid silver rails set on a mammoth iron table at the centre of the palace banquet hall. (…) By manipulating his control panel, the prince could pass the vegetables, send the potatoes shuttling through the banquet hall, or order an express to the kitchens for a second helping for a hungry guest».
Dominique Lapierre e Larry Collins, «Freedom at Midnight», pág.
"Peter Sims (born April 7, 1938) is an American jazz drummer
Born in New York City, Sims performed for much of his career under the name Pete La Roca. He adopted that name early in his musical career when he was a timbales player in Latin bands.
Between 1957 and 1968 he played with Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Slide Hampton, the John Coltrane Quartet, Marian McPartland, Art Farmer, Freddie Hubbard, Mose Allison, Charles Lloyd, Paul Bley, and Steve Kühn, among others, as well as leading his own group and working as the house drummer at the Jazz Workshop in Boston, Massachusetts. During this period, he twice recorded as leader, firstly on the well-regarded Basra (Blue Note) 1965 and lastly on Turkish Women at the Bath (Douglas 1967), also issued as Bliss under pianist Chick Corea's name on Muse.
In 1968 he left music to become a lawyer, successfully suing when his second album as leader was released under Corea's name without his consent.
He returned to jazz in 1979, and has recorded one album as a leader Swingtime (Blue Note 1997)."(wikipedia.org)

Area 25 May Help the Severely Depresse
Fitting patients with a brain pacemaker could switch off hard-to-treat depression, believe UK experts.
In depression, area 25, in red, is overactive and the frontal lobe, in blue, is underactive
Of the eighteen million Americans who suffer from major depression, possibly as many as four million are afflicted with what is known as “treatment-resistant” depression. For them, nothing works, not even electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Their lives are crippled with the disorder and many ultimately commit suicide.
However, there may be hope for them on the horizon. Early results from an experiment in Canada may hold the key. It involves surgery on a region of our brains called Area 25. This tiny node is deep in the very center of our brains and is connected to other areas that control sleep, appetite and drive, all the things that go awry when someone’s depressed.
According to Dr. Helen Mayberg, the study’s lead neurologist, if you slow down area 25, you treat the disease. She decided to try a technique called deep brain stimulation, that involves threading two thin electrodes through the brain, directly into Area 25 and stimulating it with continuous pulses of electricity from a pacemaker in order to jolt it back to normal.
The surgery has already made some very significant improvements for the few people who volunteered for the procedure, sufferers who were previously severely debilitated and who had tried all other treatment options without success.

One study has noted that BA25 is metabolically overactive in treatment-resistant depression and has found that chronic deep brain stimulation in the white matter adjacent to the area is a successful antidepressant for some patients.

Black poetry day
On Virtue
"O Thou bright jewel in my aim I strive
To comprehend thee. Thine own words declare
Wisdom is higher than a fool can reach.
I cease to wonder, and no more attempt
Thine height t' explore, or fathom thy profound.
But, O my soul, sink not into despair,
Virtue is near thee, and with gentle hand
Would now embrace thee, hovers o'er thine head.
Fain would the heav'n-born soul with her converse,
Then seek, then court her for her promis'd bliss.
Auspicious queen, thine heav'nly pinions spread,
And lead celestial Chastity along;
Lo! now her sacred retinue descends,
Array'd in glory from the orbs above.
Attend me, Virtue, thro' my youthful years!
O leave me not to the false joys of time!
But guide my steps to endless life and bliss.
Greatness, or Goodness, say what I shall call thee,
To give me an higher appellation still,
Teach me a better strain, a nobler lay,
O thou, enthron'd with Cherubs in the realms of day."

Osama Died Of Typhoid Fever In August?
The AP adds this to the rumor mill - the French intelligence report is authentic but the content has not been verified:
The French defense ministry on Saturday called for an internal investigation of the leak of an intelligence document that raises the possibility that Osama bin Laden may have died of typhoid in Pakistan a month ago but said the report of the death remained unverified.
...The daily newspaper for the Lorraine region in eastern France printed what it described as a confidential document from the French foreign intelligence service DGSE citing an uncorroborated report from Saudi secret services that the leader of the al-Qaida terror network had died.
The contents of the document, dated Sept. 21, or Thursday, were not confirmed by French or other intelligence sources. However, the DGSE transmitted the note to President Jacques Chirac and other officials, the newspaper said.
Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie “has demanded an investigation be carried out of this leak,” a ministry statement said, adding that transmission of the confidential document could risk punishment.
Document exists but cannot be confirmed
Defense Ministry spokesman Jean-Francois Bureau, clarifying the statement, said that the DGSE document exists but that its contents — that bin Laden is allegedly dead — cannot be confirmed. The DGSE, or Direction Generale des Services Exterieurs, indicated that its information came from a single source.
“According to a reliable source, Saudi security services are now convinced that Osama bin Laden is dead,” said the intelligence report.
The Ace of Spades has good coverage, including an excellent "I Question The Timing" analysis. Dems who have been fearing an "October Surprise" can be excused a bit of non-surprise now.
And yes, we went through a similar exercise in 2004 - TNR worried about a "July Surprise" where Bush would disrupt Kerry's convention by announcing the capture of Osama or another High Value Target. It's hard to believe that the NY Times took the notion seriously enough to prepare a front page, just in case.
POINT TO PONDER: The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. Osama being considered to be dead works well for Bush, Musharaff, and Osama.
MORE: TIME magazine has a Saudi source with a similar story:
Fugitive al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, believed to be on the run in rugged terrain in the Afghan-Pakistani border region since the September 11 attacks five years ago, has become seriously ill and may have already died, a Saudi source tells TIME, echoing earlier reports in the French media.
The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, says that Saudi officials have received multiple credible reports over the last several weeks that Bin Laden has been suffering from a water-borne illness. The source believes that there is a "high probability" that Bin Laden has already died from the disease, but stressed that Saudi officials have thus far received no concrete evidence of Bin Laden's death.
"This is not a rumor," says the source. "He is very ill. He got a water-related sickness and it could be terminal. There are a lot of serious facts about things that have actually happened. There is a lot to it. But we don't have any concrete information to say that he is dead."
And here is some info about typhoid. let's clip this:
Mexico and South America are the most common areas for U.S. citizens to contract typhoid fever. India, Pakistan and Egypt are also known high risk areas for developing this disease.
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: US
Show Summary: Kids Incorporated (also known as Kids Inc.) was a children's television program that premiered in 1984 in syndication (On NBC from 1984-85) and on The Disney Channel 1986-96). Winner of various Young Artist Awards during its nine year run, it is remembered fondly by adults who were in their teens in the 1980s. The show's production companies included Hal Roach Studios (aka Qintex) and MGM (aka MGM-Pathe), both of whom had produced the popular Our Gang (Little Rascals) short films of the 1930s. This TV show launched the career of Thomas W. Lynch, who would go on to produce "The Secret Life of Alex Mack" and "Romeo!" among others.
The show consisted of a group of young teens (that occasionally shifted every few years as members grew too old to be "Kids" and were replaced) who performed cleaned up versions of pop music standards of the era, with most of the Kids noticeably pretending to play their own instruments (they did sing, though). Along the way, lessons were learned through the conflicts of the kids (e.g. the value of honesty, or why not to cheat on a test.)
Some very notable people that were on Kids Incorporated was Fergie from Black Eyed Peas also known as Stacy Ferguson, Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under; Sex, Lies, and Secrets; Hawaii; Conviction), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer; Party of Five; I Know What You Did Last Summer; Heartbreakers) and many more. A very good resource for mp3's, video, and tons of pictures is http://www.kidsincorporated.us
